Sofar Sounds brings back the intimate and magical experience to live music. Located on secret and exclusive settings, Sofar Sounds takes place in more than 150 cities all over the world. Ghentstreets was present at the first gig in Ghent!
Attending a Sofar Sounds-gig, you’ll notice a Sofar-evening is all about music.
When the musicians are performing, all guests are listening quietly out of respect for the performance. This creates a magical atmosphere; just the music, artists and you. Every month, each city chooses a few talented and fresh musicians to perform, to make sure you’ll discover new artists/bands every time!
At the first gig in Ghent, we were spoiled with music from Lieven Tavernier (Ghent legend), Billie Leyers and Julien Firmin. Lieven brought songs like his well-known hit ‘Fanfare van honger en dorst’ and a tribute to Luc De Vos -also a Ghent legend, who passed away a few months ago. Billie played her piano while pampering us with her sweet voice and single “I will never (igidigidaga)” and new single “One shot”. Great discovery is Julien Firmin, an upcoming artist who brings rock’n’roll with a bluesy voice. He plays the guitar, tambourine and suitcase (used as a base-drum!) at the same time! Hot stuff!
If you want to be part of this cool music-happening, you have to sign in on the Sofar-website. At the beginning of every month, dates of upcoming gigs will be revealed. One week prior to the event, you’ll get a confirmation of your presence and 48 hours before the show you’ll get an email with the exact adress of the secret location. Who’s performing that evening, stays a secret!
See you at the next Sofar Sounds Ghent edition!
