Indian Summer in Ostend

Summer over? Hell no! We are blessed with amazing weather so the timing is perfect to plan another weekend away and pick up some rays of sunshine. And what better direction to head to than straight to the sun, to the coast, to the queen of the North Sea: Ostend. We spent a weekend there and had the most amazing time. We just had to share the awesomeness with you!

Ostend had been on our radar for quite some time for one particular reason: The Crystal Ship, the biggest outdoor street-art festival in Europe.

Basically what happened: 20 of the finest street artists gathered in Ostend and started painting the city. All over the center and far beyond you can find the most magnificent pieces. Perfect game plan? Rent yourself a bike, download the app or get the paper map and start discovering. Ghentstreets in Ostend? Don’t worry, 9000 is well represented! Roa, Scarpulla and Mister Fiksit all left their mark. Full overview of the artists can be found here. PS: there are plans to extend this exhibition in the future. Fingers crossed they will!

Exercise sure makes you hungry, but luckily Ostend has some excellent cuisine to indulge in. Absolute favorite is Brasserie Albert, hosted by Thermae Palace. Step into an amazing interior and indulge in the finest traditional seafood dishes or swing by for a cosy cup of coffee with pancakes in the afternoon, whilst enjoying the amazing North Sea view. For a nice sea-side dinner, visit Histoires d’O. Our advise? Come early and take the time to start with their delicious tapa’s and excellent cocktails.

While exploring the city by bike, you will pass by a lot of precious boutiques. Don’t hesitate to enter the bookstore Corman. Not only do they have the most amazing logo, they also have the most motivated team to help you find that life-changing literature. To dive into the skate-world you should visit Joyridestreet. The owner Gandulf is a walking skate-dictionary and will enthusiastically guide you trough all the insider brands. Lily is a precious boutique with a lot of great French and Scandinavian brands.  Lolotte is the must-visit boutique for all your interior a gadgets and presents. Wishlisted? The cacti from Serax and media gadgets from Opsmuk. Personal favorite shopping spot has to be Pied De Poule. With brands such as Ganni, Alexander Wang, Anine Bing and Iro it’s every women’s fantasy boutique. Good thing I don’t have a credit card….
