If you love to go out in Ghent, this face will definitely look familiar. Jens Poppe aka Big Poppe is resident DJ at several clubs in Ghent. His urban tunes will get every booty shaking. After a few nights of too much twerking, we just had to find out more about this POPPElurr Dj!
Meeting place? Cafe Gomez at Oude Beestenmarkt, one of Jens’s favorite places to hang out, have a drink and a tasty bite to eat. When he’s not behind the decks, his favorite thing to do is go out for dinner. Other favorite spots? Martino – a classic in Ghent, ‘t Paradijs – a true Paradise hidden in the center of Ghent or San Marino for some good old Italian.
Jens starting Dj’ing 4 years ago, but has been involved in the party scene much longer, organizing parties like the famous Boogie Nights in Club 69. It’s during one of these parties he got behind the deck and started Dj’ing. Now he is one of Ghent’s most popular urban Dj’s with resident night ‘What’s Poppin?’ in Club IIII and many visits to Boom Boom Room in Klub XIII. When you can’t catch him in Ghent, he’s probably playing in Kitsch Club in Knokke or Magic in Antwerp.
They always say style and music go hand in hand and Jens is no exception to this rule. He loves Levi’s jeans and has a huge sneaker addiction. His favourite brands are Vans or Nike for their Air Max 1’s. Jens is also a big supporter of young urban brands such as Eddie and Kroot for their T-shirts and crewnecks.
What’s in a name? Big Poppe is obviously derived from Notorious B.I.G. ‘s single Big Poppa, one of his favourite artists together with Prince, D’Angelo and Bruno Mars. His music taste goes from very female RNB and Nederhop to harder urban styles such as trap. When he’s not behind the decks, he loves to check out other local Dj’s such as Black Frank, Madfingaz, Gus & Sense or Thang.
So next time you go out and see Big Poppe in the line-up, make sure to check it out. I guarantee you’ll have a good time!
